In 20 years working at daily newspapers Jim has written about everything from crime to city hall to music to the military.

That’s to say nothing of such demanding journalistic assignments as following a 24-hour adventure race along the perimeter of an Army base, cycling 300 miles through 10 counties for a different perspective, having an Asian bearcat squat on his head and hanging out with Willie Nelson on his tour bus.

Having survived all that, Jim came to The Virginian-Pilot newspaper in Hampton Roads, where he covered a variety of beats, learned how to shoot and edit online video, moan about bridge and tunnel traffic and refer to jets tearing over his house as “the sound of freedom.” That’s when he brought all that broad experience to Vox Optima, where he writes, edits and conducts media relations and simulations for the Navy.

Jim lives with his wife and twin sons in Norfolk, Va.
