Jeffrey Bender - Executive Communications Consultant
Jeff brings more than 30 years of military experience to the team and is happy to be back with Big Navy in his current job at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA 05). He started his naval career as an enlisted journalist, and then joined the Reserves where he received his commission and retired as a Navy captain in the Public Affairs community. Prior to augmenting to active duty, he worked in the healthcare field in hospital public relations and marketing for nearly ten years.
His numerous active duty tours include U.S. Strategic Command, Supreme Allied Command Transformation (NATO), Joint Forces Command, Joint Public Affairs Support Element, Naval Special Warfare Command, USS Abraham Lincoln, Iraq and Afghanistan, to name a few. From international public affairs to crisis communications, Jeff has been there and done that. He loves two-way communication and believes you learn more by listening than you do by talking.
He is proud of his small town roots, growing up in Elmer (southern New Jersey). He graduated from Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) with a degree in Communications-Radio, TV and Film and earned a Master’s degree in National Security and Military Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, R.I.
In his spare time, he enjoys home brewing, craft beer, baseball and Husker football. Never mistake that if there is a trip in Jeff’s future, he will Google craft breweries near the place he intends to visit. He also likes writing “to do” lists just so he can go back and see what he still needs to do years later, i.e. list all the concerts he has attended, the countries he has visited and catalog thousands of digital pics. The non-artificial redhead loves spending time with his family especially his four-legged labradoodle buddy, Keegan.
